WELCOME TO THE
THE UNITED STATES AIKIDO FEDERATION
(USAF)
Established 1976
The United States Aikido Federation (USAF) is the oldest aikido organization in the United States. It was established by Yoshimitsu Yamada, Akira Tohei, Mitsunari Kanai and Kazuo Chiba, all direct personal students of Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido. Through their teachings, the USAF expanded throughout the country and across the globe. With the passing of Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan, 8th dan on January 15th, 2023, the USAF is currently under the technical direction of the USAF Technical Committee.
The USAF advocates mutual respect for one another and does not support or tolerate any form of discrimination, exploitation, or harassment of anyone for any reason whether based on race, color, ethnicity, age, disability, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual preference, religion, socio-economic status or national origin.
The USAF is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization of independent aikido dojos dedicated to advancing and promoting aikido training to its members.
We are passionate about aikido.
THE USAF IN THE TIME OF COVID
2020 brought with it an unprecedented pandemic, and the reverberations were felt around the world. People everywhere have been affected in challenging and long-lasting ways, and this includes the aikido community.
The USAF has been working hard to adapt to COVID-19 challenges, including hosting weekly online classes and a series of dojo-cho conversations. To further support the aikido community, the USAF continues to stay in touch regularly with its membership through phone calls, emails, social media, and Yamada Sensei's messages.
The USAF has sadly lost members and instructors during the pandemic, and extends its deepest condolences to everyone in the aikido community who has experienced a loss during this time.
